Inverness, FL.,- State Senator Charlie Dean (R, Inverness) applauded the
Public Services Commission today in response to their decision in regards to Progress Energy Customers.
The Public Service Commission ruled Progress Energy of Florida customers will get refunds, plus
interest, from the utility which over paid for coal.
The commission found Progress Energy over paid $7.6 million for coal during 2006 and 2007, which will
be paid back to customers next year. Progress Energy serves more than 1.6 million customers in 35
counties in Florida.
“I am very pleased with today’s decision by the Public Service Commission,“ said
Senator Charlie Dean. “I hope in the future, all energy utilities will seek the lowest cost source for
their fuel purchases and would like to take this opportunity to again remind all Progress Energy
customers of the upcoming public hearings in my district.”
Senator Dean has requested the following public hearings in conjunction with Progress Energy’s recent
application for rate increases:

Suwannee County public hearing, July 9th, 10am in the Live Oak City Hall, Live
Oak;

Citrus County public hearing, July 17th, 9am in the Citrus County Auditorium,
Inverness, and;
-
Marion County public hearing, July 17th, 2pm in the Ocala City Council Chambers.
